James Earnest Stone

A Colorado Springs singer-songwriter, James shared a London-based label with Beth Orton, Spiritualized and Chapterhouse and has toured nationally alongside US indie-rock acts such as Apples in Stereo, Low and the Lilys. Born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, raised in Texas, he was given a garage sale guitar and The Beatles Red Album on 8-track tape for his birthday in the summer of 1980. A few years later one of the largest terrestrial radio stations in Texas began playing his own band Comet’s 45rpm single many times over in the summer of 1994. The ensuing regional exposure along with continuous touring led to a deal with Dedicated/Rough Trade in the UK and BMG/Arista in the US. A critically acclaimed album followed, Chandelier Musings, charting on college radio around the country while garnering reviews and mentions from Entertainment Weekly, Alternative Press, Melody Maker, NME and Rolling Stone. In 1997, a tour ending bus accident irrevocably fractured the band.

Living in the foothills of North Cheyenne Cañon, the 21st century finds James continuing to handcraft songs with his interpretive strain of indie folk-rock leaning heavily on a love for the 60’s and 70’s Laurel Canyon tradition while performing live both solo as well as with The Rainhorses.
